Frequently Asked Questions

Faq-Answers

1. How does it work?

The contest prize values range from $10 to $600 and will be displayed in each contest. These online contests are open exclusively to members of WhoGets.com. It is free to join. Just sign-up. Once you are a member, you can enter each contest once via the WhoGetsTM website. There is nothing to buy and no offers to complete. You will not receive spam e-mail offers. There will be hundreds of contests.
The online contests take places in two phases: the semi-final round and the final round. The semi-final round will usually last for 7 to 14 days. During that time, the product to be awarded is displayed and any WhoGets.com member can enter the contest to win it.
At the end of the semi-final round, seven entrants will be randomly selected as contestants for the final round. Each of these seven contestants will have the opportunity to make a statement, up to 100 words long, explaining why they want or need the displayed product or whatever they feel like writing or they can leave it blank. The final round will usually last for another 7 to 14 days. During that period, WhoGets.com members vote for their favorite contestant. The contestant who receives the highest number of votes wins.

We are working on upgrades so that a member why I should win statements. We do attempt to block profanity, but again this is a public forum.

13. How does WhozNews work?

Check out our How It Works section for a good explanation of what WhozNews is all about.
In a nutshell, WhozNews is a site where members submit stories, news, articles, and blog posts that they find interesting and informative. If other WhozNews users think the article is cool too, they will give it a a Get.The articles with the most Gets move to the top.
You can discuss articles in the comment section, and meet new people by checking out member profiles.
You should also check out our and Rules for Submitting News for more information.

14. Can I have more than one membership account?

Nope – one account per person.

15. Can I change my user name?

Yup! If you wake up one day and decide to reinvent yourself, you can change your user name by sending an email to info@whogets.com. Email us from the email address you used to set up your membership account. Be sure to include your current user name and the new user name you’d like.
We ask that you don’t make a habit out of changing your user name.

16. Can I choose which stories I do (and don’t) see?

Yup! In your profile, there is a feature that allows you to add and remove (topics categories?). Love politics? Add it! Hate cooking? Remove it! When you’re logged in, you’ll only see stories from the categories that you’re interested in.

17. How can I delete my account?

Why would you want to do that? We’ll miss you!
Seriously, if you’d like to delete your account, send an email to info@whogets.com. Send the email from the email address you used to set up your account, and include your user name.
We can’t undo a deletion, so make sure it’s what you really, really want!

18. Why did you delete my account?

In almost all cases, it is because you violated one or more of the Terms of Use. We usually cut users a break for making a mistake or two. But if you’re a habitual violator, we’ll delete your account.

19. The site won’t let me email domain register – what gives?

The most likely reason is that you haven’t entered a valid email address – you probably just misspelled it, so double-check.

If you’ve entered a valid, correctly spelled email address and you still can’t register, that means you’re using a domain that’s blocked from registering on WhozNews. For instance, we might have decided to block any email address coming from “ilovetospam.com.”

It is very, very rare for us to block an entire domain. This will only happen if that domain has been frequently used for serious violations of our Terms of Use

20. What is a Get?

A Get is basically a vote – stories with the most Gets move up to the top.

21. How many Gets can I give?

You can give one Get per story.

There is no limit on the number of stories to which you can award a Get. But please be selective with your Gets; we want to showcase only the best content on the web.

22. How many Gets does a story need to move up to the top?

There’s no set number of Gets that will automatically get a story moved to the top of the homepage. The stories with the most Gets make it to the top – that number will vary from day to day. Today the top story might have 500 Gets, tomorrow the top story might have 5,000 Gets.

23. I just read a story that’s really lame. Can I give it a negative rating?

No. We don’t have a feature that amounts to the opposite of a Get. Lame stories won’t receive any Gets, and they’ll wind up at the bottom of their category.

24. My story received hundreds of Gets, and it was on the top of the page. Now it’s gone – why?

Because of the way WhozNews works, which stories are on the top of the page will be constantly changing. The story that currently has the most Gets can be surpassed by a story that earned more Gets at any time. Your story may or may not move back up to the top.

25. Can I see what other users have submitted or given a Get?

Yup! Every member has a profile. That profile contains a log of every story you submit, Get you award, and comment you leave.

26.Is there certain subject matter that you don’t allow?

Yes. We want WhozNews to be a place where people can read about and discuss all kinds of ideas and topics. However, there are some types of material that aren’t welcome here – in fact, they’re totally banned. You can read the Terms of Use for specifics, but here are the main materials we don't allow:

  • Pornographic or obscene material
  • Material that promotes hatred, racism, bigotry, or any other kind of discrimination
  • Instructions for making bombs
  • Instructions for committing illegal or criminal activities
  • Material advocating violence or criminal activities

If you come across stories containing any of the material listed above, please report it to us immediately: info@whogets.com. Include the title of the article, the name of the user who submitted it, and what type of prohibited material it contains.

27. The story I submitted disappeared. Where did it go?

We can’t keep all the submissions on the site forever. We’d quickly be drowning in a sea of articles, and it would be impossible for our users to sort through all of it. If your story hasn’t received enough Gets to make it to the homepage during that time, it drops off the site.

28. Can I edit or delete a story I submitted? How do I do it?

The answer to this question has two parts:

1. Yes, you can delete a story you submitted.

2. You can only edit the title, category, or description of the story you submitted.

To edit or delete a story you submitted, send an email to info@whogets.com. You have to email us from the email address you used when you registered, and you must include the WhozNews URL of the story you want to delete or edit. Be sure to specify whether it is an editing or deletion request.

If you want to edit a story, in addition to the URL, your email must also include the new title, category, and/or description you want added to the story.

We’re sorry, but you cannot edit the body of an article – even if you’re the one who wrote it. Otherwise, we’d get buried in hundreds of emails asking things like, “Can you delete the third comma in the second paragraph?” Be sure an article you’ve written is exactly the way you want it before you submit it.

29. The story I want to submit doesn’t fit into any of your categories. Can I still submit it?

No. If the story doesn’t fit into any of our categories, you can’t submit it. Feel free to send us feedback and suggest new categories. If enough users request a new category, we might add it.

30. Can I submit an article about the same subject as the one I already submitted?

That depends. You might come across a second article on the same topic and decide that’s it better than the article you submitted, or you might feel that it adds important information the first article left out. Use your best judgment, and err on the side of caution if you think a user might perceive it as spam.

31. There’s a blog I really like that summarizes articles on a specific topic – can I submit it?

No. You cannot submit blog posts that only summarize original content. You can, however, submit blogs posts that analyze and discuss the original co00000000ntent.

32. How can I add a friend?

There is an option called ADD FRIEND in comments posted by users in the contests. You just click that and you are done.
